World's Largest Coral Reef System Offers a Clue to Development of a Super Sunscreen

It was amazing to study the way the reef's corals protect themselves from ultraviolet light for millions of years. Scientists found the presence of natural filters which keep away the damaging rays.

Researchers came out with a safe and powerful sunscreen which can protect against harmful UV radiation which causes sunburn and skin cancer.

"The filters are clear in colour, virtually odourless and very stable, which makes them easy to be incorporated into any emulsion," said scientist Dr Mark York.

Scientists hope that the sunscreen will be available globally within five years.

World's Tallest 'Twisted' Tower Inaugurated

Developer Cayan Real Estate Investment and Development Company said 80 percent of its residential units have already been sold.

Construction began in 2006, but was delayed due to major technical problems and the 2009 economic downturn in Dubai triggered by the global financial crisis.

The tower was designed by Chicago-based Skidmore Owings and Merrill, the masterminds behind Burj Khalifa, which is the world's tallest tower and also in Dubai.

The 828-metre (2,717-foot), 160-storey Burj Khalifa broke engineering and architectural records when it opened in January 2010.

In May 2012, Dubai opened the 413.4-metre (1,356-foot) Princess Tower, the world's tallest residential building, according to the Guinness World Records website.

And later in 2012, the emirate inaugurated the world's tallest hotel -- the 355-metre (1,165-foot) twin tower JW Marriott Marquis Dubai.

World's Most Expensive Cities for Tourists-Oslo

The survey found that Sydney, costing 445.64 dollars for a night out, ranked No. 6 among the European-dominated mix of priciest places.

Zurich was ranked at No. 2, Stockholm at No. 3, Paris at No. 5, London at No. 7 and Copenhagen at No. 8.

According to the Age, the TripAdvisor TripIndex Cities is based on the cost of a couple staying one night in a four-star hotel, cocktails, a two-course dinner with a bottle of wine, and return taxi fare of 3.2 kilometres each way.

The survey found that South-east Asia, meanwhile, claimed three cities in the 10 least expensive destinations.

Hanoi ranked at number 2, Bangkok at number 6 and Kuala Lumpur at number 7 were among the least expensive countries.

Sofia in Bulgaria was ranked the cheapest city overall at 153.21 dollars for a night of revelry.

A TripAdvisor spokesman said that Asia is the most affordable continent, while Europe is the most expensive, but some European cities - like Sofia, Warsaw and Budapest - are bucking this trend.

The spokeswoman said that while Singapore was ranked as 10th most expensive last year, it fell four places to be ranked 14th most expensive of these worldwide cities.

Sofia was also ranked No. 1 for the cheapest hotel room at 93.05 dollars a night, while New York City was the most expensive at 366.46 dollars a night.
