by Dr.Enozia Van Daele on May 04, 2013 at 2:42 pm News Diet & Nutrition it is well known that buying food when you have hungry is a complete recipe for a disaster. When we are hungry, we are particularly sensitive to views and smells of food that will satisfy, but are not always in nutritional value. What happens if we could make our choice of meal when we are full, and not to anticipate the feeling of fullness we all enjoy? It would make healthier choices? Researchers from the Cornell Center for behavioral economics in (B.E.N. Center) Child Nutrition programs has undertaken to test if pre-order lunch would push students to do more healthy entr e choice.
Pre-order lunch form
In two schools of elementary upstate New York, students use a pre-booking system electronics to lunch stopped in the morning. Fourteen teachers decided to register their classes in a four-week study to test the effects of the pre-order lunch. These classrooms were assigned randomly to one of the three experimental conditions: 1) stop pre-order for the 3rd week and resume for the 4th week, 2) stop pre-order for the 4th week or 3) continuous pre-order for all four weeks.
What did sales saves the report? A significant number of healthier choices have been made when pre-ordered students lunch. When preordered was available, 29.4% of the students ordered the most healthy entr e lunch against 15.3% when no preorder took place. When ordering in the noon line, hunger mixed with flavourings and the sight of unhealthy foods, in spontaneous food decisions: e selection healthy entr was reduced by 48% and less e choice healthy entr has increased by 21%.
More details on the study
This is excellent news! At school, preorder can help students make healthier choices in entr es. Simply by changing the decision environment, students were oriented in this direction to select the best health entr es. Even if the schools in this study used an electronic booking system, paper systems can be just as effective and less costly. Each system provides an effective method to help students to make conscious decisions over health at lunch.
