49 Billion Hours Spent at Work by Brits

The data collected by the Department for Work and Pensions is the highest quarterly figure since records began, and 20million hours more a week than the same in 2012 quarter.

It was found that full-time employees clocked up 37.4 hours a week, while part-timers did 15.9 hours.

When compared to the first three months of 1983, it was noted that Brits worked a total of 791.7million hours a week, which is nearly 160million fewer than 2013.

The total in work rose by more than 400,000 in the past year and stood at 29.7million in the first 2013 quarter.

The department said that more than 90 per cent were full-time workers- driving up the hours data.
